April Fools, and Convention Time!
No April Fools? No jokes yesterday worth having. Wow, this country’s become so conservative! ((^_^)).
April is a BUZY time for me, and Laura Carboni. For one, Laura’s decided to get married. That’s right RUSHers, she’s taking herself off the market. 0_0. She’s marrying the love of her life, and moving to Taranto Italy! I’m very jealous, not because I think her fiancé is hot or anything, but because I LOVE TARANTO ITALY. Don’t you hate it when your friends get to do all the cool stuff? So we’ll be the only members of Team Rush who’re* married. >.> That means, you can expect ZERO romance in our future stories. 0___0.
Convention time is here. Man, there’s a lot that goes into getting prepared for a convention, even if you just plan to just sell some books and doujinshi in an artist alley. I know lots of you out there are artists, and so you know the amount of prep-work it takes to get everything ready, just to sell your works [fan and pro books, and prints]; you must make sure your publisher gets your books to you on time [if you’re a pro]—you have to make sure your printer gets your artwork to you on time [if you just sell illustrations]—you must pay for your table, and membership to the con, on time [usually months in advance-yuk]—and if you’re lucky, get a non-smoking motel room that you don’t have to share with anyone…ON TIME. The month of April will be spent preparing for con appearances in two Texas cities: Dallas [A-kon June 1-3: I’ll be at Table D, #25], and San Antonio [San Japan, July 13-15]. I’ll have copies of RUSH 1 and 2, my new graphic novel, Only Words, as well as my works from other publishers—and my Gungrave/Trigun fan doujinshi. I’ll be giving out free postcards, and hanging out with all my friends, many of whom I haven’t seen in ages. Cons are great, once you get there…it’s the prep time that’s killer.
Anyone else going to a con this year? If so, which one? Any in Texas??!
*looks like whore, LMAO!

I’ll be at Anime Matsuri in 3 weeks (yikes!) down in Houston. It’s a first year con, but it looks promising. (Organized, clean website = good sign.)

Whoa, I never heard of that one! I know Houston has an Oni-Con; and used to have Kamikazicon?
Hey, do you still draw all that hot Samurai Champloo slash?

I’ll be at MOBICON X May 18th-20th; Mobile, Alabama’s premier science fiction, fantasy, gaming, anime and media convention!

Really? For some reason, I never figured on you being from the South… Not a bad thing, but I always thought you were from Minnesota or something. LOL! Weren’t you in Europe for awhile?
April 3rd, 2007 at 11:38 am
Wow, congratulations to Zel-sama! All the best! *3*
Good luck for preparations for the con/s!

dry ice:
Do you attend any cons?

I’m going to Acen and Anime Iowa Acen is next month and it’s the midwest’s largest Anime con, I love it. But the Anime Iowa, which I think is hte midwest’s oldest con, is nice since it’s my home state anime con and I know everyone there. I have an artist booth there each year basically.

I recall Caroline going to Anime Iowa, I think. She said it was fun, and coming from her, that’s a tall order. 0_0. Do you have prints done up? Or do you just draw while you’re there?

Where I’m from, I’m guessing the conventions here (Manila) are a long shot from what you guys have over there. *x* Anyway, I’ve attended some, but I’ve never booked a table before. I want to try it someday, but first I have to find a table-buddy, which is not exactly the easiest thing here since I have few to zero friends here who actually book tables… 8D; (Cosplay is simply the in-thing, actually.)
I *have* tried to register for a table for Comic World in Hong Kong, so I had it all planned out in my head (so much to do indeed), but I backed out because of a couple of reasons. Wish I’d started preparing a year before the convention. OTL Anyway, just a precaution, lest I end up shelling out too much money. Someday, yeah~! *D*

That happened to me with Yaoicon this year. *argh* I’ve taken on some writing projects that are due around that time, and that, coupled with my anxiety about being a talentless hack, have caused me to cancel my hotel room. :/

Ooh my congratulations and well wishes to Laura and her partner *hearts*
As for conventions, Ill be going to my first con next weekend , SupaNova in Brisbane Australia.
There is a lot of planning to be done. I originally started in November last year, but it was frustrating because no one actually expressed interest to share a table until late January. The table costs $220aud on early bird rate which is crazy. We had some drama bout one of the members trying to mooch without paying for her seat so we had to boot her and whore ourselves on the street for the extra cash to pay on time (kidding hehe). I know next year Ill be better prepared and start making stuff to sell not a month in advance but three or four haha , that and I wont be so silly as to wait for someone to pay again, especially rude con-artists. v___v.

We had some drama bout one of the members trying to mooch without paying for her seat so we had to boot her I never share, for that reason! LOL! I always see too, when you get there, and some poor artist is waiting, and either the person they’re sharing with is out cosplaying–or just didn’t bother to wake up on time to help set everything up.
Mind you, it’s easier for me as a writer, all I have to do is sit there and be sociable and sell my books–artists have it tough. You all must have a sample print book for people to page through, your sketch supplies, your current prints on sale, envelopes for prints, cash bag, etc. Being ready, in advance, is essential. Art Alley is also important because industry people do pass through it, just like art fans…and so you have to at least look like you have your act together, even if it’s all just a show ^_- There’s so much that goes into it before you sit at your table, and Areku, you’re right, if an artist thinks they can just show up-prepped-like it’s nothing serious, they’re more than rude–they’re downright stupid.

Ah, Yaoicon. *A* Certainly on my list of “things-to-do-before-you-die.”

Really? I must be incredibly jaded. I know I like to play it off that I don’t care about Yaoicon, but the truth is, performance anxiety keeps me away from there. LOL!
April 5th, 2007 at 7:37 am
Performance anxiety? What exactly do you mean by that? @w@;
(Well, I need to use my US Visa at least once until ‘11 anyway… 8D)

The fear of being sucky. I know I suck, so I stay away. That’s performance anxiety. Of course, it’s all in my head–but, I sometimes I let it get to me. ^_-
